Fashion

My fashion tastes over the past five years come from a plethora of resources, primarily based on a Mod/Indie/Vintage look. However, throughout my life I have embarked on several different fashion journeys, including grunge, goth, and even a short stint with preppy (oh middle school!) to name a few.

Currently my fashion is largely inspired by the British Invasion scene in the early to mid 1960's and my materials are found in online stores such as:

http://www.atomretro.com/

Easily my favorite online store to shop, and nearly as fun as thrifting. If you want authentic vintage sixties and seventies clothing that has never been worn before, look no further. Several of my jackets, shoes, hats, and other rare or impossible to find items have been purchased from this site and they will not disappoint you. The prices can be a bit steep, as online shops often are, but so far everything I have bought has been worth every dollar.

I only own one suit made by these master tailors, their prices are pretty high, but the suit is custom made for me and is one of the sharpest I own, so every stitch was worth every penny. It's nice enough to be a funeral ensemble if need be (hopefully not anytime soon.) A true Mod would supply most of their wardrobe from this store.

The website doesn't allow image sharing, however this site is amazing! You can customize virtually ANY suit  of any style and measure to fit, out of any material for just shy of $150.00. Velvet and Corduroy included! not a bad supplement to a vintage suit based wardrobe!

On hot days, I wear tee shirts. I'm not a huge fan of the tee. It's too standard, too everyday to be a regular part of my wardrobe. Unless of course the shirt is extremely amazing. I mean, it has to be completely different then anyone elses and I have to fall in love with its design right off the bat. Of course, I will always layer with a jacket, blazer, or flannel or button down. This site is great, the designs are always original because there is a daily art contest held to choose what designs will go on sale and whatever designs are featured that day, that is the only day you are able to purchase it. Plus the tees sell for just $9.95! So, always cool designs,  affordable, and odds that someone else will own the same tee? Slim to none.

Saving best for last in the online category, I absolutely LOVE this site! And my paycheck loves it, too. I currently have 2 suits and one jacket, but I intend to get them all eventually. There is no other place that sells 100% authentic Beatle suits anywhere in the world. Some come close, but Beatle Suits uses the exact patterns, materials, and measuring systems as the real deal. The owner, Russ Lease, has nearly every suit they've ever owned. I can't wait until he releases the Sgt. Pepper uniforms!

Next, is the Thrifting Category. I've composed some great outfits through thrifting. I haunt Savers, Goodwill, The Youth Ranch and Deseret Industries. More often then not, I can find outfits in these places that are just as great the online ones, the trick is finding ones that actually fit right. Here are a few outfits I have found at these amazing second hand stores:

Here is a nice grey wool suit I found and with a friend's help, added a bit of velvet fabric on the collar to get that English Crombie look. The shirt, tie and boots were thrifted as well.

This awesome plaid jacket was a gift from a friend, the tie, suspenders, shirt and pants were all thrifted.

This one is a Marine dress jacket, which always creates a stir from the more conservative in Idaho, making it a lot of fun to wear around here. Coupled with a thrifted red button down, bow tie and store bought drainies.

This three piece wool pinstripe suit, hat, tie and shirt were all thrifted on the same day in Nampa. Easily my greatest thrifting excursion thus far. I wish I had a more detailed image to show the entire outfit and the great stripe design, but all I've got is a screen cap from the Indy film 'The Distance' in which I played the main antagonist "Leroy". More pics to come soon.

This is a great summer outfit! The pants, boots, and shirt were all thrifted. Of course, the shirt is a woman's western blouse, perfect for that sixties Rolling Stones era look. The glasses were purchased at The Record Exchange in Boise.

One of my favorite local vintage thrift shops is Atomic Treasures (not to be confused with Atom Retro) on 9th and Main in downtown Boise. They specialize in seventies and eighties vintage gear and have a great selection of cowboy boots, jackets, belt buckles and sunglasses. They have all sorts of other items too, such as records, art and other vintage memorabilia. Take a look at their facebook page:

For most of my vintage military gear, I hit up Boise Army Navy on Chinden, they have pea coats, parkas, Navy sweaters and caps, plus lots of other cool things like props for cosplay, camping gear, etc.

And this sweet little shop in Caldwell, which quite possibly has the best vintage military gear in the state:

(They are so tiny, they have no website and aren't listed, I will get a pic and location of them soon.)

Also, Junkyard Jeans on Broadway in Boise is a favorite vintage haunt of mine. They have an amazing selection of fifties through nineties vintage gear, including 501's, red flyer sneakers, custom vintage military surplus, biker gear, old school sneakers etc. They claim to be the best vintage shop in the US and they are actually pretty legit. Check them out here: http://www.junkyardjeans.com/JYJ%20PICKER%20LIST.htm

Finally, I do occasionally make some shopping in retail stores. Primarily Express, Palmer Cash, and Macy's to help supplement my wardrobe. Express and Macy's are chain stores where I can find good dress shirts and pants. Not much to be said there that you don't already know. Palmer Cash is an amazing local tee shirt shop and they have a world renowned online store. You can check out there website here: http://www.palmercash.com/

I will keep this section updated regularly as my fashion ventures progress. Happy thrifting!
